7 CAREERS FOR ARTS STREAM AFTER CLASS 12

Arts or Humanities as we also know it, is a stream with million of possibilities when we talk of careers. The discipline is known as Humanities as it explores the different aspects of the existence of humans on the face of the earth. Now imagine size of the earth, multiply it with the number of humans present on it, add the numerous experiences, feelings, developments and studies that humans may have gone through, since the beginning of time. This will give you a clearer idea of how vast the stream is.


Fortunately, Indian schools offering Humanities as a stream provide several options and combinations to students to choose from. Even while you are in school, you can go for different subjects and choose your career in a way. We have listed for you, a few career options you can look at, when you have Arts as a chosen stream.
1. Psychology: Psychology as a subject is as fascinating and interesting as it can get. The subject deals with the complexities of the human mind, possibly the most complex things on earth. Students who take up psychology in after school can see careers in counselling, clinical psychology, psychiatric technical work, and others. You get to meet different people, study them, get to know how their minds function and several other things.
2. Sociology: Those of you who have opted for Sociology in school can do tons of great work in research, get into law enforcement, counselling, social activities and much more. Plus, getting to know about the societal set up makes you more knowledgeable.
3. History: Students studying history have several avenues open to them, Depending upon the area of their study, they may get into archaeology, historical studies, museum curation, teaching or lectureship or become an archivist.
4. Economics: Arts stream students with economics as a subject have a whole wide world of opportunities open for them. They may study economics, statistics, and take up any amount of work in the corporate sector. Research in field of economics is a lucrative option too.
5. Political Science: Has the desire to understand the political system interested you in class 11 and class 12? Well, guess what, a career in the same can get you places. You may appear for various civil services exams, take up good ranking government jobs, be placed in an embassy… Basically there are several openings for political science students within the government sector and in the international scenario too.
6. Philosophy: With a subject like philosophy, you virtually have the answer to every thought or possibility in the universe. Philosophy deals with various thoughts, expressions and reason attached to reality, existence, knowledge, values, the mind, and language. Researches and studies in the subject are in demand in most universities, so you may see yourself in a horde of different occupations.
7. Others: An advantage for Arts stream students is that they may apply for various arts subject courses in universities, since they have a fair idea of all the arts subjects taught. So whether it is the languages, a career in law, visual arts, philosophy or professional courses like Hotel Management, etc., students benefit anyway, due to the subjects taught to them in school.
