“One man’s magic is another man’s engineering,” said Robert A Heinlein, one of the most influential Science fiction writers of the last century.
My phone woke me up this morning to the sounds of my favorite music. I ordered the lights to switch on. The coffee mug went into action, warming the water for my morning drink. The geyser adjusted itself to my preferred temperature while my smartphone reminded me of my mother’s birthday, dialing her number her as I brushed my teeth. As soon as I got dressed, the refrigerator and microwave oven collaborated to set up up my breakfast, comprising last night’s leftovers. The toaster popped out my favorite brown bread while the music system automatically played the romantic song I danced to, last evening, with my girlfriend.
My car can drive me to work without my assistance. I don’t take the metro, even though it is far cooler than any means of mass transport ever imagined. I work at a product company where we create educational material for smart and engaging online studies. Last week, I got back from my annual vacation, spent on a yacht, one of the most technologically advanced ones available in our country. All this is because of all the engineers who have made my life more comfortable than I could imagine. I realised, we endeavor to make lives of kids a lot more fun than their parents could imagine.
The world owes a lot to engineers. It seems like they can produce things out of thin air, but actually they can use any type of material and create magic. They are artists and scientists combined into one. They are fuelled by ambition and the drive to create. Unlike writers and artists, their innovations have been used by the masses for centuries, ultimately clearing paths for future innovations.

If it weren't for the drive in Tesla and Edison, we’d never have the magic that we call Electricity. If it weren't for Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and other crazy geniuses, we’d not be using our phones to change the world around us. As Indians, we have had our share of amazingly innovative geniuses as well. If you observe, engineers are not only creating products but also running the largest companies and making a mark as statesmen.
I hear that you are thinking of becoming an engineer. If I were your age, I would not think; I would just get into it at the first opportunity (which I did). Today, we practically run the world and if you want to be one of us, you are more than welcome. The world needs your zeal, enthusiasm, inquisitive and vision to create wonderful inventions that make life easier and more comfortable for us.
India has great engineering colleges and extremely talented teachers across the nation like IITs, BHU, BITS etc, yet the IITs have managed to carve a special niche. As an IITian, you would not only be recognized across the world but be looked up with admiration too. You would get access to the coolest college environment and great classmates, many of whom, can inspire you to achieve greater success at every step.
Now, you definitely need to know how to go about getting there, right? Not easy, not impossible either. Here is the hard fact: You will have to give in a lot of effort into knowing all you can, about the sciences; about your school syllabus. Once you've got that in control, direct your efforts towards the competitive entrance exams. You will require the assistance of many sources to get your preparation going. Online sources have become a much-preferred source of study help for aspirants of engineering. Resort to the popular sites which offer online study material, custom-designed for Engineering aspirants.
With the right kind of assistance from these sources and the support of your family and friends, there is very less that can deter you from achieving all that you desire.
Good luck!
