IMPROVING PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS

One of the things many students are scared of doing is speaking in public. Delivering a speech, while you are the center of attention of your class or the entire school! If you are not the extroverted, confident sort, with no major skills as an orator, and you have been asked to address the public during a school program, your first reaction would be to say no. If that is not an option, the days before the D-day would be spent in terror. There might also be a case where you are comfortable with speaking on stage, but your skills are not enough to capture the attention of your audience. As a result, your speeches are ineffective and what you had in mind could not be conveyed to listeners.

So what can you do in order to tackle these problems effectively? Are there any magic fundamentals that can guide you not just through the fear of speaking but increase the effectiveness with which you do it too?
Of course! There isn’t a thing you can’t improve if you have the right kind of guidance. Personality development experts and orators of repute recommend the following few ways you can bring out the best in you.
Tip 1: Read Aloud for sometime each day
Read from a nice book in prose or the newspaper and notice how you pronounce different words and letters. Make this a daily habit in order to get a correct idea of the way you speak. Some people may also take help of a recorder and see how their words sound.
Tip 2: Make sure you speak clearly
Which each passing day that you are practicing your speech, you will want to see improvement. For that, you need to work on your clarity and speed. Speak slowly and clearly. Put the right amount of stress on each syllable. Do not try out accents to sound better. Be genuine about it.
Tip 3: Have a friend or family member listen to you
Every once in a while, get somebody to listen to you read or speak. Ask them to listen to you and tell you where they think you need to improve. This will help you in getting a second perspective.
Tip 4: Whenever you have a speech to make, know it well
No, this does not mean you have to memorize pages full of text. instead you should have a good idea about what you are going to say. For example, if you are talking about tree plantation, make sure you have read something about it in advance, apart from what’s in the speech. The confidence you get from this adds to your ability to speak in public about it. Also, before you go up and make a speech that you read out from a sheet of paper, read it a few times. Make sure all the words and their pronunciation is known to you. This way, you won’t fumble and get stuck on stage.
Tip 5: Pay attention to your Body Language and Appearance
This is probably the easiest and most important things to do when improving oratory skills. When you are at the center of everyone’s attention, they tend to notice every detail about you, starting right from the way you are dressed, the way you are standing, and the way you might be using your hands. So make sure you are totally in control of all these gestures. If you have to be delivering a formal or semi-formal speech, you should be dressed appropriately. When you stand up, have a vibe of confidence that you would give out to the audience. Do not roam around on the stage, so not move or shake your legs unnecessarily.
Tip 6: Be Interested in the speech, have the right Gaze
Look like you mean the things you are saying and are involved in it. Make every word count, while keeping in mind the reading exercises you did earlier. Smile at happy or hopeful sentences and make the audience want to know what you are saying.
Most importantly, once you start practicing, you will gain bits of confidence each time. Make sure you harness this confidence in the right direction and continue to make efforts to improvement.
Public speaking skill is a must for students who aspire to study for Mass communication courses. One needs to have a definite command over their language and since it is directly connected with the masses, the job of professionals in this field requires ability to get acceptability with their communication within the same.  The strong influence that media has over people’s life in today’s time , this career makes itself, an attractive career option amongst the  youngsters .To know more about a career in mass communication .
